Tonal character, extremely natural, rich meaty with surprising timbre for what is basically an all Sonion BA based set. First thing that hit me was its ability to mimic a live stage. You can hear the ambience of the venue perhaps better than anything I have heard. The Legend comes close but these things! Vocals on the Impacts is special. Penon has always produced IEMs with a rich mids presentation but the way the Impacts portray vocals is uncanny. Its imaging and precision is on another level as it should. The impacts has the type of sound that leaves a lasting impression. Its forward holographic sound signature is absolutely superb for all types of music. Its versatile balanced tuning and stunning holographic sound is all encompassing.

The Penon a fantastic IEM with his own merits that can compete with other TOTL at a more affordable price. In my opinion the Impact is a set with a very balanced sound signature that is superb for all kind of music genres. Not boring by any means. The tuning is very versatile with great layering, excellent resolution and a holographic presentation. Live music sounds awesome. Classical sounds sublime. Even prog rock and metal genres sound amazing due to the speed and fast decay of the Sonion BA and the clean and smooth treble of the 4 EST. However, being the Impact a kind of midrange specialist, it’s no surprise how special it sounds with vocals. It’s mesmerizing! Hannah Reid from London Grammar or Susanne Sundfør just sound immense! Highly recommended.

The Impact for me is an excellent IE with absolute all-rounder qualities. The tuning is stirring for rock and metal listeners. He also cuts a very good figure in other genres. The BA Bass is powerful, musical and clean. Still, the Impact isn’t IE for bassheads. The mids also remain absolutely suitable for a long time without swallowing up details. Due to the typical Penon sink around 6kHz, there are no sibilants. The highs are detailed and present, but remain musically round. His exciting calmness makes him an excellent IE for me. He dispenses with showmanship over the entire frequency range. That’s why I think it takes a “listening time” until it fully ignites. If you can live with the spartan packaging, which I think is contemporary, you get an excellently tuned listener that manages a successful balancing act between analysis and musicality.

Vocals on the Impacts is special. Penon has always produced IEMs with a rich mids presentation but the way the Impacts portray vocals is uncanny. Its imaging and precision is on another level as it should. I was told the customized white Obsidian cable was designed for vocals in mind. To add a touch of richness for its tonal qualities probably using a bit extra for the gold plating on the cable. If your a vocal lover for music you have to take the Penon Impact into consideration.
The impacts has the type of sound that leaves a lasting impression. Its forward holographic sound signature is absolutely superb for all types of music. If your an eclectic music listener like I am the Impacts have easily become my number one. Its versatile balanced tuning and stunning holographic sound is all encompassing. Penon has clearly taken their time to design these to be a TOTL level IEM. ( I will be adding to this preview and it will officially become more of a review but I felt I needed to post at least a preview of the Impacts for now) Much more impressions and observations to come.

In Impact’s case very little stands out as manifestly inadequate, depending on your preference the sole exception may be the absence of a Dynamic Driver.
Impact’s BA bass is superb by BA standards – being quite textured, fast and present in enough quantity to make EDM extremely satisfying, but the slower decay & slam of a DD isn’t something BA’s can hope to replicate. I would nominate Impact’s BA bass of the best attempts so far but some Head-Fiers insist on DD bass and will accept no substitute.
To better convay Impact’s sound I compared them with a number of IEMs from similar price brackets.

I’m not much of a vocal person. I focus on the instruments and the groove however, vocals are perfectly centered and placed forward in the mix. This goes for male and female, so if you are looking for a vocal centric experience I think the impact will impress you there too.

The Bass
It set the bass foundation on the virtual stage far and deep and with great accuracy.
There is good decay, extension, rumble and texture.
The Midrange
Compared to the Volts, Impact opted for accuracy and neutrality, with a sense of natural crispness over warmth and musicality coming from the Volts.
The lower Treble
Excellent energy, never tiring and never boring. Attack, decay, sustain and release Pace, rhythm and timing are all carefully calibrated to ensure a true replication of the original recording.
Upper treble
Excellent extension, never becoming harsh or sibilant.

The Impact is more adept for analyzing music. I hear more detail and texture in stringed instruments and vocals, all presented with silky smoothness. It also scales up very well with sources and higher volume. At the same time, I think the Voltage is uniquely musical, natural, and engaging. Two flavors of excellence.
The Impact and Voltage are two high-end gems. The Impact delivers impeccable tonality and detail, with an immersive soundstage and excellent bass. The Voltage is energetic and also technically capable, with musicality and DD bass that grips you. If you had to choose between these two, either way you’d win.

Great IEM-s. True TOTL

The Penon Impact is a very balanced, smooth, technical IEM in a gorgeous package. It’s got good warmth to the vocals, great details, controlled treble, punchy bass. If I’m going to nitpick, the implementation of the BAs doing bass is probably not the best I’ve heard. Compared to like the Elysian Diva or the AME Mousa, where it doesn’t sound nor feel like BA Bass, the Impact does retain a bit of the BA bass signature. Otherwise, everything is overall very good. As far as a flagship IEM goes, you get an excellent balanced sound signature with detailed mids, energetic yet controlled treble, and an extremely technical sound in a gorgeous gold shell.

The Impact is an impressive, high-end IEM from Penon. Its tuning is very well-balanced, with great-quality BA bass, fantastic vocal clarity, without being overly bright or fatiguing. I think the Impact has excellent technicalities, including a natural timbre, smooth transients, a deep soundstage, and great detail retrieval. It also strikes a fine, musical balance between all three frequency bands. The Impact makes an excellent all-rounder and is just as capable of playing hard rock as orchestral arrangements. As good as it is, I wish there were more sub-bass presence and deeper extension, and I could also use a little more note weight in the treble to keep the notes slightly more grounded. This set is truly a joy for those who want an immersive and engaging tuning and for anyone who wants to experience EST treble without the overt brightness.

I would characterize the Impact’s overall tuning as a somewhat energetic and engaging U-shaped profile with a healthy mid-bass boost and a slight bright tilt in the upper mids and treble. The note weight is a bit on the thicker side, which suits me perfectly. This is a pretty easy set to drive and it can reach loud volume levels from a simple dongle, but the EST drivers scale well with power. The detail retrieval is great, but it does have a bit more of a musical tuning. Those seeking the absolute best detail might be a little disappointed. The soundstage has great depth but could benefit from a little more width. It’s still very good and creates a great three-dimensional and immersive sound. The Impact has a very natural and organic timbre, impressively accurate imaging, and it is very well separated while remaining cohesive and congruent.
